It has been quite a while since I posted anything on here so I have added a few photos below that give a brief and incomplete summery of some of the happenings around here in the past couple of months. it has been a very busy time for us. I hope to fill in the details at a later date, but for now let's discuss last weekend.
Dillon and I went on a three day camping trip to the Khutse Game Reserve with my friend Matt and his son Jack. Our hopes were to see some lions. As of yet we had not seen any wild lions in our time in Africa. We have been in many areas in which lions are reported to be, but haven't spotted a single one.
Well that all changed last weekend. After a five hour drive we entered an area with a known waterhole, and there they were. A pride of ten lions were sitting around a dead young giraffe that they had killed earlier in the day. Many of them were sitting only a few meters away from the road we were on. What an incredible stroke of luck.
We spent the next three days watching them slowly consume the young giraffe. It wasn't very difficult to keep an eye on them, as the camp site we were assigned was only 300 meters from where they had killed the giraffe. That was a bit nerve racking but at least we knew they weren't hungry. We could hear them at night as we sat around the campfire. I was truly grateful for the rooftop tent.
This is a shot of two of the adolescent lions in the pride.
